BTS in Japan (Twitter) K-pop boy band BTS achieved another feat when DNA became the most watched K-pop group music video on YouTube. They reached the milestone on 22 April when DNA surpassed the views of Big Bang’s Fantastic Baby music video on the video sharing site. As of this writing, ‘DNA’ got 348.55 million views compared to 348.03 million views of Fantastic Baby. [embedded content] DNA was uploaded on 18 September last year and is the carrier single of BTS’ hit album Love Yourself: Her. The song was included in Billboard’s 100 Best Songs of 2017. Since September, the DNA music video has amassed 5 million likes and 1.42 million comments on YouTube. Meanwhile, BTS will be making their comeback with a new album titled Love Yourself: Tear , which will be released on 18 May. The upcoming album topped Amazon’s best seller list in pre-orders of CDs and vinyl. KUALA LUMPUR: Popular K-Pop all-girl group TWICE will perform at a concert at Stadium Malawati in Shah Alam on July 28. Organised by IME Asia, Malaysia is one of the stops for its TWICELAND Zone 2: Fantasy Park tour. The nine-member outfit, made up of Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu, was formed through a reality show called Sixteen in 2015. The group is under the management of JYP Entertainment. Their debut single Cheer Up became an instant hit with K-Pop fans and it reigned the popular charts in South Korea such as Naver, Melon, Mnet and Soribada. It also won Song Of The Year award at Mnet Asia Music Award and Melon Music Award in 2016. After the single, they released several other hits including Knock-Knock, TTLikey, Signal and their latest song What Is Love. SINGAPORE - Popular South Korean pop group Wanna One, which was formed through the hit reality TV contest Produce 101 Season 2, will be putting on a concert in Singapore on July 13. The show, which will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, is part of the band's first world tour One: The World. Even though Wanna One made their debut only a year ago, the 11-member boy band have become huge in the K-pop music scene. At the 2018 Golden Disc Awards in South Korea, the band were named Best New Artist Of The Year, and at the MTV Europe Music Awards, they were given the Best Korean Act Award. Wanna One is a 11-member group made up of Yoon Ji Sung, Ha Sung Woon, Hwang Min Hyun, Ong Seong Wu, Kim Jae Hwan, Kang Daniel, Park Ji Hoon, Park Woo Jin, Bae Jin Young, Lee Dae Hwi, Lai Kuan Lin. After School was, is, and shall be for the foreseeable future, my favorite girl group of all time — in large part due to songs like this one. I don’t think Because Of You is After School’s best track, but I’m featuring it because it marks this group’s peak in popularity; they would never reach the highs set by this song again, despite later releases like Shampoo , Bang! and First Love being just as good (in my opinion). In fact, thanks to some spectacular mismanagement by their agency, Pledis Entertainment, and the abuse of their “graduation” concept (a concept similar to AKB48), After School is currently on unspoken hiatus, with their last release being in 2014. With newer groups like Seventeen and Pristin filling this void left by one of Korea’s most original and talented groups, it remains to be seen whether After School will descend into even greater irrelevancy or not. Track: Give Love | Artist: Akdong Musician | Album: Play Akdong Musician (sometimes stylized as AKMU) is like nothing else in K-Pop, which is honestly some of the highest praise anyone can give to a K-Pop artist. This brother-sister duo of Chanhyuk and Suhyun rose to fame through season 2 of K-Pop Star , a talent elimination show, and promptly signed on to YG Entertainment. Since then, they’ve been cranking out self-produced songs like nobody’s business, and pretty much all of them are the equivalent of 500 Days Of Summer , if 500 Days Of Summer were quirky and bouncy K-Pop tracks. Give Love is one of my particular favorites, but you can’t go wrong with any of their title tracks — their latest one, Dinosaur , is a bit of an evolution from their usual fare (a bit less acoustic, to start), but still really great.
